Control fly populations and reduce livestock stress with this cost-effective, self-medicating insecticide.
Use a wood/steel horizontal support pole that is at least 120cm long. This support pole will go through the top folded end of the BOS BAG. A pole diameter of up to 40mm is recommended as it will support the weight of the bag plus the dusting product (5kg) and the ‘playing’ from the cattle once installed. Ensure you insert this pole through the middle of the 2 hessian layers, within the green plastic outer. Screw or tie the bag using eyelets to hold securely and prevent bunching.
BOS BAGS work best when hung initially in a high traffic area of the paddock or yards, with their base height a few inches below the height of the shoulder of the smallest target animal. Placing BOS BAGS over troughs, licks, lick blocs or through gateways will increase usage. After 1-2 weeks of cattle being exposed to the BOS BAG the herd should understand the effects of the insecticide and begin to self medicate, so placement becomes less important. BOS BAG’s use by bulls is usually much higher than other classes of cattle.
Various mounting methods can be used to hang your BOS BAG. Independent frames, poles or even trees can be used to mount the BOS BAG. (See pictures below for ideas). Use chain, cable or rope with enough length to position the BOS BAG at the desired application height. When choosing your mounting style, consider that the BOS BAG will need to be re-filled.
The BOS BAG is made from a high quality, long life, water resistant vinyl product. To fill the BOS BAG, open the Velcro end and scoop approx. 4kg of the recommended infill: chemical-free insecticide sold with the BOS BAG (Grainsave ™ - Absorbacide <10 Micron). Due to the fine nature of the refill product, a dust mask is recommended for the refilling of the BOS BAG. When refiling, try not to get the dust into the Velcro area, this will effect the Velcro performance. Similarly, overfilling the BOS BAG can also effect the Velcro. Please note that if the
