Looking for more Roses & Flowers? Here are some tips to get the best blooms
When it comes to flowering plants it is hard to go past Roses. Roses are a hardy, long-lived, long-flowering flower, putting on a show from spring right through until autumn.
Roses need plenty of sunshine, six hours at least per day, they will grow in many soil types, but good drainage is essential. If you are planting new Roses, a few weeks prior prepare the soil with a good quality compost, working into the soil with a fork. New plants need to be kept moist, so ensure you feel the soil to test the moisture, once established roses will enjoy a weekly soaking, but will need more in the dry summer months.
Roses are hungry plants, so apply organic fertiliser like Organic Life® or Terra Firma’s Blood and Bone Pellets, twice in spring, summer and autumn and water in well. In winter apply a layer of compost and work into soil, avoiding damage to the roots. In Spring and Summer apply a cover of mulch straw to retain moisture. Roses respond well to pruning, producing more canes and many more flowers.
Mid winter is a good time to cut back established roses, to give you more flowers. Roses are one of the most rewarding plants to grow, delivering beautiful blooms with colour and scent! Happy Growing!
